“Take me out to the ballgame..”
Girlie is very excited to tell you that today is opening day for baseball!
She also wanted to let ya’ll know that the Minnesota Twins are the best. She’s still a bit sad and mourning the loss of two of her favorite and very cool traded players (Torii Hunter and Johann Santana, tear). But, she’s going to be strong and stay loyal to her favorite team. GO TWINS!!
She’s hoping to one day play short stop….but first she needs to figure out how this thing called crawling fowards works.
It’s been a fast week and I really haven’t had much to write about. I guess I want to make sure I’m not too boring for you internet people. We recovered from our long weekend to Minnesota for Easter. Speaking of our weekend…I was planning on talking a bit about that. We enjoyed a few days visiting both sides of the family. The highlights included seeing Uncle Luke (Erik’s brother) who had been doing research in Scotland since January, eating a huge yummy meal with Erik’s Grandparents at their retirement home, eating a big delicious meal with my side of the family and watching Girlie laugh and enjoy spending time with 9 of her Grandparents. She was officially spoiled with four stuffed animals and other Eastery stuff, too. We got all the candy though…and all the gained weigh, too, ugh. All in all it was a wonderful trip and we even managed to make it to Minnesota before the snowstorm hit them.
This week has been okay. Trying to figure out Isabel’s nap time routine has been stressful. Her parents and I have come up with a new plan. She’s not going to nap here, only be here for half days/mornings. I’m okay with this and feel like it will take an enormous amount of stress away from my days. We might try again after Isabel’s really adjusted to coming here and feels comfortable. But…for now I’m happy about the new plan. I’m still looking for new kids to watch. If any Madison folks know of interested people….please pass on my information!
This weekend our friends Mitch, Sarah and their little guy Benjamin are visiting. It’s great seeing them and we don’t really get the chance to visit each other often. They live in Brainerd, Minnesota (a.k.a. way way up north in MN). It’s been fun watching Benjamin who’s one and a half cruise all over the place and he’s so smart!! He already knows all the letters in the alphabet. He was running all over shouting out each letter that he found on his magnet toys. Amazing how kids can learn things so early.
One other random thing from my week. Girlie has learned to sort of pull herself up onto her knees. She’s mananged to pull over our plant stand along with the plant and half it’s dirt and nearly onto herself (yep, this freaked me out quitea bit). She’s also getting into all her books on the second shelf of our bookcase now. And eating them. Paper’s digestible I guess…yuck. Her new trick today was pulling up on the one and half year old childcare kiddos. She’s a bit chubby and the other kids didn’t really like the new trick, let’s hope she figures this out before she gets an angry kid falling on top of her. Speaking of chubby…she just had her nine month appointment yesterday. She’s doing great and continuing to excel at growth. Her height was off the charts (future basketball star?) Erik is happy to report she’s still a fatty and weighs in a little over 20 lbs.
Enough rambling from me. Enjoy your weekend folks…hope it’s nice and warm and spring like!
Happy belated Easter everyone. Girlie had a wonderful first Easter. Mom and Dad loved eating all her candy! Our big weekend trip to visit all the family in Minnesota went very well. I’ll tell you all about it…soon! Here’s the little cutie in her Easter dress. She was very pleased with her pretty dress (as you can see below).
My poor Dad accidentally asked me how my babysitting went yesterday. Wrong word Pops. He of course meant no harm and he’s a great Dad. He supports what I do and thinks I’m a great mama to his Grandbaby. It’s just every time someone calls me a babysitter I feel like an idiot. Then, I tell myself…
self….you’re not an idiot. You’ve got a college degree…you’ve used it a few times this year. Remember self…you just helped your handsome hubby with his research group’s paper by doing a little proofreading. And besides skipping the nutty equations that were a foreign languageto your brain, you actually found errors in their grammar and helped correct them. Yay, self!
Not to go all psycho on you folks, but if you thought it was hard being a stay at home Mom….try owning a childcare business. It’s interesting….the government thinks I’m going to make a ton of money and I’m taxed the same as any small business owner (which sucks and is a lot), yet when I tell people what I do I’m automatically turned into a pimple popping, bad driving, immature sixteen year old high school babysitter….ugh.
I’m sure they don’t think of me that way, but to me the word babysitter transports me back into time when I actually was an enormously awkward teenager. And no one likes remembering their ‘awkward’ teenage years.
So…what’s the point of my angry ramblings. Don’t call your kids daycare providers babysitters. I’ve taken classes in childcare. I follow lame rules licensing rules from the State of Wisconsin. And most of all…I provide a heck of a lot better care to your kid than I could have as a high schooler. Amen. Lecture is through…hug your local daycare provider today folks
